Thoracic Applications
Robotic surgical technologies have already started to change the way surgeons operate inside the chest - in particular for procedures performed on the lungs and esophagus.
With the use of the da Vinci® System, thymectomies and other potentially traumatic procedures can be performed through 1-2 cm incisions, without spreading or cutting the breastbone or ribs, thereby minimizing blood loss, pain and scarring.
Studies suggest that this less invasive approach can greatly reduce recovery time, pain and trauma associated with thoracic surgery.
For most patients, minimally invasive thoracic procedures performed with the da Vinci Surgical System can offer numerous potential benefits over open-chest surgery, including:
- Shorter hospital stay
- Less pain and scarring
- Less risk of infection
- Less blood loss and fewer transfusions
- Faster recovery
- Quicker return to normal activities.
Thoracic Procedures
- da Vinci Thymectomy
- da Vinci Lobectomy
- da Vinci Esophagectomy
- da Vinci Mediastinal Tumor Resection
While clinical studies support the effectiveness of the da Vinci ® System when used in minimally invasive surgery, individual results may vary. Surgery with the da Vinci ® Surgical System may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your doctor about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.
